Jody Hughes
Cello and Viola di Gamba

Jody grew up in Canada as part of a Suzuki violin family, but was the one who was given the cello - for reasons now lost to history. After a year at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester NY, she moved to Illinois to study with Marc Johnson of the Vermeer Quartet in Illinois, graduating with a BMus in cello performance and a MMuS in conducting.

Following a further year of conductor training at the University of Toronto, Jody relocated to the UK, settling in East Anglia and building a freelance career as a cellist and occasional conductor.

Her performing work includes concerto appearances in Haydn’s C major and D major concertos, Saint-Saëns No.1, and the Brahms Double, alongside extensive chamber music. She plays both modern and baroque cello. On the latter, she is much in demand as a continuo player, appearing with Steven Devine at the Suffolk Villages Festival and with the Aldeburgh-based Delightful Companions. On modern cello, she performs with the Oakwood String Quartet and as a freelance player with a wide range of orchestras and ensembles.

Alongside performing, Jody is a highly respected music editor, preparing scores for publishers and working directly with composers to ready new works for first performance.

Jonathan Dodd
 Organ and Spinet

Jonathan began his musical life as a chorister at Norwich Cathedral, appearing as a treble soloist on BBC Radio 3 and in broadcasts in both the UK and the US. While still a chorister, he began organ studies with Adrian Lucas and, at the age of eleven, founded his own eight-voice choir, which performed across North Norfolk for two years. He later left the county to take up a music scholarship at Uppingham School, where he studied organ with Nicolas Kynaston and David Dunnett, and singing with John Whitworth, alongside several other instruments.

He returned to Norwich as a countertenor choral scholar at the cathedral, later becoming a lay clerk. He studied singing with Ashley Stafford and has since sung as both countertenor and bass in a number of cathedral choirs. Jonathan has directed the trebles of Norwich Cathedral and worked with a wide range of professional and amateur choirs, for both adults and children. He is currently Director of Music at St Peter & St Paul Church, Swaffham, where he trains and accompanies the choirs. A particular highlight was recording the organ music for In Search of the Brontës for BBC One.

Alongside his choral work, Jonathan is active as a composer and arranger. He plays modern jazz on piano and drums, and early music on recorders. At a masterclass in 2013, Michala Petri described his playing simply as, “You play great!” which he regards as the supreme moment of his musical career to date!
